Screen Break is a free native macOS menu bar break reminder that helps people actually step away from the computer. It runs quietly in the menu bar, lets users choose a 30 to 50 minute work duration, and starts a clear full-screen rest session when it is time to pause. The default rhythm is 30 minutes of work and 5 minutes of rest.
The app is intentionally small and direct. It is not a subscription service, habit tracker, or productivity dashboard. Its job is to make screen breaks harder to ignore while still respecting real work. If the user has been away from the computer for a meaningful idle period, Screen Break can reset the work timer instead of forcing a rest immediately after they return. If the system appears busy with media playback, meetings, camera use, full-screen presentation, or similar focused activity, Screen Break can defer the rest session.
Screen Break supports Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, requires macOS 13 or newer, and is distributed as a universal macOS app. It includes multilingual copy and friendly alert icons, and it is designed for developers, makers, writers, designers, students, and remote workers who want a gentle but firm reminder to protect their eyes, posture, and energy.
