Muse is Meta's personal AI agent that keeps working on your tasks after you close the app, for people who want the work done rather than another chat window.
It does the task, then comes back
You talk to it like a message, in the Muse app or in WhatsApp. It runs on Muse Spark, Meta's model for this kind of work, inside a Muse Secure VM: a cloud computer that holds the agent and the data for accounts you connect.
- Send an email or book travel, including jobs that take a while, such as selling a car or lowering a bill.
- Turn a saved Instagram recipe into a grocery list, and remember a friend's dietary restriction before the invites go out.
- Keep working after you close the app, and stop for a yes before it sends a message or pays.
- Check out with Link from Stripe. Meta says this is the first AI agent covered by Link's purchase protections, using a one-time card so your real card number stays hidden. Shop Pay and 1Password are listed as coming later.
A second process has to approve anything that leaves
The split that matters is between the worker and a checker on the same machine.
- Each person gets their own cloud computer. Another person's agent cannot reach it.
- A separate Sentinel process has to approve anything Muse sends to the internet, and it asks you when the action is sensitive.
- Passwords and payment methods go into storage Muse can use but cannot read, including passwords you type into its browser yourself.
- You pick which apps it connects to. For email, you choose whether it can only read or can also send. You can disconnect a service, tell it to forget something, and opt out of your chats being used to train Meta's models.
- Meta says your conversations and the data in that VM are not shared with its ad systems.
- Later this year Meta plans a Confidential VM encrypted with a key only you hold, so Meta itself cannot read it. That version is not available yet.
Where it is available
The September 8, 2026 announcement says Muse is rolling out in the US on iOS, Android, and muse.ai, with AI glasses listed as later. It is free for most of what people need, with subscriptions if you want to do more. The announcement does not publish those paid prices.
